We thought our inaugural sled hockey event last March was so much fun, we decided to do it again! Over 150 people strapped on sleds and hit the ice. Thank you so much to our partners: Michigan Tech Recreation, Michigan Tech Kinesiology and Physiology, Superior Alliance for Independent Living, and the UP Sled Hockey program. I can safely say the event was an unmitigated success. Big thanks also to our volunteers from the Michigan Tech hockey team, Central Michigan University DPT program, Finlandia SPTA program, and Kappa Delta Psi fraternity. Additional props to the businesses that donated our raffle prizes and towards our bake sale: UP Adventure Company, Coca-Cola of Houghton, Calumet Golf Course, and Mont Ripley Ski Hill. We earned $267 dollars to put to our adaptive swim program this winter, and afterwards had several community members come to an informational meeting looking towards establishing a local sled-hockey team! ELK will be instrumental in the development of this team, to offer logistical support, fundraise for equipment and ice time, and provide volunteers as needed.
Check out the Google album from the day. Try not to be blinded by all the smiles.
